ParticipantLet’s see Chris make a mainstream come back instead of bit pieces, after all the da universe used to revolve around him. It’s almost like he had been phased out after snake eyes

ParticipantOne of the highlights of this series is the fact that the secondary characters are all strong personalities with their own viewpoints and agendas. So we’ve seen stories told by Stacia and Declan and now Caeco. Plus the short stories as well.
Having said that, I agree that returning to Chris’ POV would be a welcome change. Between fighting the Vorsook and agents of Hell and raising two kids with brand-new powers, there should be plenty of material for Chris to cover in the next novel.

ParticipantI couldn’t agree more regarding strong secondary characters, it seems Chris has been playing second fiddle since snake eyes, Also what ever happened to chat.

ParticipantI think it relates to the power ramp for Declan and Chris, if you look at say, Harry Dresden from the Dresden files, the power ramp is much flatter, therefore 16 books about Dresden, instead of however many are strictly about Chris and Declan.
If you have a powerful hero you need a powerful villain, to make a good story.

ParticipantHear, hear to “If you have a powerful hero you need a powerful villain, to make a good story.” Which reminds me of my character, a little off-topic I know

ParticipantI think it was a bit unfair that Stacia’s book wasn’t told first person from her POV. One of THOSE types of novels could be great fun – her own book, Rogues, segued into Declan’s book by the end. CAECO also ended up with a heavy Declan focus, but that’s to be expected considering their… history.
I think a novel with Chris as one of the narrators works, but overall I’m more comfortable with him sliding back a bit more – he’s kind of HAD his major arcs – grown as a character. The usual way to keep them interesting is by damaging that growth in some way – look at how comics resets Spiderman or Batman ALL THE TIME. Either that, or you escalate the threat stupidly.
More from his point of view, maybe of some of the other characters would be good though, especially as the Vorsook arc builds up – as they seem a fair match for him.
I’d be a fan of more Compendiums, to flesh out more characters and maybe give us Chris’ view of some of these OTHER stories being told. I for one would lvoe to see how he slammed Mr Jenks around at Arcane for the guy being an idiot!
DoctorChild – your own characters? Writing your own series perhaps?

ParticipantNot writing a series just creating a character (just one character who’ve I been told is overpowered). I suck at writing, just like people say they can’t draw to save their life I can’t write to save a life.

ParticipantHi
I’d like to see more Chris books, but I don’t agree with him being phased out. I enjoyed rogues very much, same with caeco, and Declan’s books are good as well. What I’m seeing is a widening of the world, and I hope it continues.
There could be books about what Tanya and Chris have been doing parallel to what went on in summer book, and at other times.
My concern is the power of omega, who is quickly becoming very OP.
December 2, 2019 at 8:27 am #927Audax
ParticipantWith omega, I think Mr Conroe has actually spent some time curbing him – at first Omega was “everywhere”; but by Caeco’s book it seems he can only properly “focus” on some of the world – and doesn’t quite have all that influence over even most of the USA. He can run several parallel routines but doesn’t seem to be that imaginative or active if he isn’t as zeroed in on a situation – hence why he can’t talk when Declan gets hurt – EVERYTHING focuses on that issue.
Also he seems very poorly equipped to deal with the Vorsook AI. And they seem to have multiple versions of those – so it may be that his limit is in a stand up fight with the Vorsook.
The Vorsook seem to also have been very stupid – they have all these hidey holes on the planet – and actual Vorsook on Earth. Quite why some of those have reverted to using basic cybernetic enslavement is weird. We saw that even a small number of the Black Forest weapons were ridiculously effective. Why haven’t they tried that again now they have actual footholds or presence? The whole Nika short story would’ve ended a whole lot differently if there’d been Black Frost revenants in that base, rather than the usual MIB grunts. Same for CAECO…
But yeah, another novel with Chris (I think Tanya’s book will show more of him) and then a few split offs. Of course, Mr Conroe can only do one book at a time! We should clone him….

ParticipantWhat about a time travel book for Chris? Where he is sent back to World War II. And have they already introduced time travel, but when you introduce time travel into a story it makes it complicated.
December 3, 2019 at 5:13 am #931Audax
ParticipantTime travel could be a bit weird – or send him back so he has to make sure his past ISN’T disrupted by Vorsook maybe?
I did have a thought that maybe we get an Alternative Universe Chris – one who DID lose everyone in that ORACL bunker… and who went apocalyptic. Ends up in this universe to wreak havoc – he’s JUST Grim now, wants Tanya. And just thinks all threats to Tanya EVERYWHERE need to die – so starts a one man battle across the planet. Could be an interesting way to whip up tension between Chris and the world again – “look what happens if he goes off the deep end!!”
Of course, the counter to that is “Well, how about we don’t TRY to send him off the deep end?”
I think Chris in WW2 would be… insanely overpowered. NOTHING could scratch him, unless we find out just what the Nazis were doing in that POW camp…

ParticipantAlso, it was mentioned in the Executable novel about how ORACLE was founded because of Hitler and what supernatural legends he found. So that’s why I thought about Chris in WW2. Or use magic to send in back in time similar to how Diane and King was sent back in time in Seven Deadly Sins.
