ParticipantI really enjoyed Zone wars and I want to go on record, I’m a big fan of John Conroe’s books. However I need to bring to his attention some inconsistencies relating to technology. First any computerized systems weather its a drone, laptop or any computerized device have 5 key things that make it work. On the hardware side you have a CPU (computer processor) RAM (memory) and storage (where the software resides). on the software side you have drivers (code that allows the CPU to interface with devices in the computer) and software (operating system and applications). When describing rewriting core code, your rewriting the software that’s located on the storage device of the computer system, not the CPU. Computer processors(CPU’s) are physical hardware. You cannot rewrite a CPU. Well maybe Intel and AMD can, but you get my meaning.
Another thing that was not mentioned in the book was backups. I think its safe to say Rikki is almost as close to AJ as a family member living in a very hostile environment. Considering Rikki is constantly rewriting his own code, I would be backing up his system every chance I get on an encrypted storage device and then hiding it in a very secure place. This way if he gets destroyed, I could salvage parts from other Berkuts, rebuild Rikki, then reload his software from backup.
Mr Conroe reading through Zone War’s you very accurately portrayed the weapons used by AJ and what they were used for. I know this because I looked up a lot of the guns used in this book. I’m thinking you also want to describe technology just as accurately.

ParticipantHow good is zone wars compared to his other books? And side note I created this wikia for the Demon Accords book series: https://demon-accords.wikia.com/wiki/Demon_Accords_Wiki

ParticipantThank you PL, I appreciate the knowledge and lesson.

ParticipantAnytime. I’ve been working in technology in New York City for over 25 years. I don’t mind answer any questions you have proving you keep writing these books. I also know of a few cool places AJ might want to visit 🙂

ParticipantI had no clue of where to write this so I decided to write this in the most recent topic.
My question is:
What is the etymology of Chris Gordon’s name?

ParticipantJust finished Zone Wars and I have to admit, I went in with a great deal of trepidation but, as with Demon Accords, I fell in love with the characters… especially Rikki! lol Great job, John, and I can’t wait for the next one… after another DA!

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about the high end Spider AIs & the way they learn & adapt. They must have noticed the degradation of theirs & the others hardware, & lack of milspec ammo. They also, since they are tapped into the internet, have a basic idea of technological advances in the rest of the world. Given their drive to kill efficiently & planning capabilities, I think the Zone Wars teams & the rest of the world may be in for a shock when NEW drones with upgraded systems & AIs suddenly appear. Manhattan is a large place & there has to be some machine shops, small robotic manufactory plants & niche production companies, maybe with 3-D printing systems here & there. Probably chemical & biological labs & plants as well. With those available & wanting to maintain or increase their population & capabilities for killing the rest of humanity, I’d be surprised if they haven’t set up production lines & R&D facilities of their own, for ammunition, new barrels, & replacement parts initially & then new designs based on what they’ve learned works, have seen & modified from the internet & their own R&D. Things could get rough.

ParticipantOk, I have read both books in the series. My main issue is there are LOTS of drones in the Zone that can fly. I am assuming MASSIVE increases in battery and capacitor efficiency for the drones to be viable. Having them run out of bullets and making metal darts and low power lasers sort of works. The solar charge needs to fly and run lasers even for a few seconds is pretty high though. Now assuming they have sufficient power, Manhattan is an island and has a limited number of ways to attach to the mainland so they could be blocked by Zone Defense. The REAL problem is you have flying drones so for Zone Defense to work they have to work every on square inch of Manhattan’s shoreline. The shoreline has to be guarded and guarded against FLYING drones. That would take a LOT a HELL of a lot of Render drones. If the Spiders are smart enough to design new drones they should be able to design small boats or rafts to move out a few drones, even simple submarines or balloons or gliders, powered down on a timer little to no metal. So either I forgot some stuff or some descriptions of blocking devices have been left out. Despite my carping I DO find the series very enjoyable and entertaining.
